Song Notes for Blue Bee Bar

Down at the Blue Bee Bar – On Green Turtle Cay, Abacoes, Bahamas used to be a tiny cinderblock building that was the Blue Bee Bar. The proprietress was an elderly Bahamian named Miss Emily, the Miss E of the lyric. This song is based on the happenings on the afternoon I was there.

La Noche, La Luna – Cancun is another popular Caribbean vocation spot. Our hero is overcome by the beauty of a local woman, the night and the moon.

Liza Jane – I believe this on one of the oldest tunes to make it from Africa into the musical cornucopia of North America. Over the years I have heard many variations and versions. Here I try my hand at it. My lyrics on one of the traditional melodies.

Day One – For close to 20 years I was a school teacher. Many students passed through my classroom doors. Occasionally students would come back, say "Hi", bring me up to speed on their lives and accomplishments. This song is based on experiences related to me by one of these students.

Cleavage – I put this under the heading of Social Commentary. Let's face it; it's all around us. This is not the first time this subject has been tackled in song, however; the inspiration rests in a song sung by the Limeliters entitled "Vicky Dugan".

Love Let You Down – Inspired by the thought: what if John Lennon met up with the Mills Brothers.

Lullaby – One of the many musical influences on me was Brazilian Samba. This is from the few selections I have written in the genre.

Tote The Load – Having been unemployed myself, I have empathy for those who have worked hard, followed the rules, sought the dream, and then find themselves without job and everything they have worked for taken from them. Pretty Boy Floyd is reputed to have said, "There are those who'll rob you with a six–gun and those who'll rob you with a fountain pen." Gee, that still happens.

Around About Summer – One day, after a hot afternoon on a roof, I decided to have a little fun with the old round "Summer Is A–comin In."

Mango Salsa – A song about that delicacy found through out the Caribbean and Florida.

Interstate Highway – There's no place like home and this is a song about returning.
